Welcome to our monthly newsletter

The weather has been surprisingly good for September, but there’s definitely a chill in the air and the nights are drawing in. Soon we will be thinking about putting the heating on and getting cosy for some longer nights. But this can cause problems after not having the heating on for so long...

For a More Relaxed Life we have some great value home emergency insurance to take the pressure off you. Also featured this month, is our great value SuperCover travel insurance, as well as some handy tips on bringing goods back to the UK from our holidays!

Home Emergency

Relax with our home emergency assistance insurance

There’s nothing worse than a household emergency whether it’s plumbing and drains, electrics, hot water or central heating. Whilst most is likely to be covered by your house insurance, they are unlikely to cover the cost of emergency repairs, and we all know that this can run into hundreds of pounds…and it’s never nice when you haven’t got the budget to cover it!

With MRL Home Assist you have complete peace of mind with just one call to our Emergency Hotline – open 24/7, 365 days year. There are four levels to choose from starting at just £49.50.

Tip

Travel Tip - Customs Limits

When we go overseas, invariably we end up bringing goods back into the UK, whether we’ve been shopping in New York or bring back alcohol and cigarettes from the EU. But just what are the limits? Our handy guide this month outlines just what you can and can’t bring back.

Inside the EU

When arriving into the UK from an EU country you can bring in an unlimited amount of most goods. You must be able to transport them yourself and be able to prove that they are for personal use or a gift only. For excise goods such as alcohol and tobacco, there are no restrictions unless you are buying tobacco products from Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania and Romania

Travel to the UK from outside the EU

You can bring in goods worth up to £340 without having to pay tax and/or duty. Some foods including meat and dairy products are also not allowed. With regards to tobacco products and alcohol, you are allowed a set allowance including either but not both of the following:

  • 1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22 per cent volume
  • 2 litres of fortified wine (such as port or sherry), sparkling wine or any other alcoholic drink that's less than 22 per cent volume

In addition you may also bring back both of the following:

  • 16 litres of beer
  • 4 litres of still wine

With regards to cigarettes you can bring in one of the following:

  • 200 cigarettes
  • 100 cigarillos
  • 50 cigars
  • 250g of tobacco
