Travel Tip - Stay healthy on holiday

One of the biggest travel insurance claims is for medical assistance whilst overseas, so read through our handy tips to ensure that you do as much as you can to stay fit and well whilst on holiday.

• Find out if you need any vaccinations well before you travel.  Many vaccinations are required up to six weeks prior to travel.
• If you are travelling within Europe, ensure you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) card.  You can get hold of a form from your local post office or online at www.ehic.uk.com
• Beware of what you are eating – there are steps you can take to ensure that you mitigate your chances of getting a tummy bug!  e.g. only drink bottled mineral water that has been untampered with, only eat fruit that you can peel, avoid ice in your drinks particularly in less sanitised countries.
• Take plenty of insect repellent and mosquito nets if you are travelling to somewhere exotic!
• In sunny climates wear a hat and use high factor sunscreens all day every day and ensure you keep hydrated by drinking plenty of bottled water.
